Object history
Deutsch: Das Wappen des Landkreises Ahrweiler wurde am 5. Juli 1927 vom preußische Staatsministerium verliehen und war damit eines der ersten Landkreiswappen Preußens. Das Kreuz steht für die 600jährige Zugehörigkeit des Ahrtals Kurköln, der Adler redend für die Grafen von Are, welche vor der kurkölnischen Zeit im Ahrtal herrschten, der Löwe für das Herzogtum Jülich, er weist darauf hin, dass Jülich vom Ausgang des Mittelalters bis Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts an der unteren Ahr und am Rhein Landesherr war und der heraldische Wellenbalken symbolisiert die Rheinprovinz, zu der das Kreisgebiet von 1816 - 1945 gehörte.
English: The arms were granted on July 5, 1927. The arms show in the first quarter the arms of the Electorate of Cologne, in the second quarter the imperial eagle, in the third quarter the lion of Duchy of Jülich and in the fourth quarter the arms of the Prussian Rhine Province. The area of the district was made up of territories that belonged to Cologne and Jülich. The eagle is besides the imperial eagle also taken from the arms of the Counts of Are, who owned in the Middle Ages part of the district. At the time the arms were granted the district was part of the Rhine Province.
