"Op 'n hoogte op die Lüderitz-skiereiland, het Bartolomeus Dias in 1488 'n padrão of klipkruis opgerig tydens sy terugvaart na Portugal, nadat hy die Kaap die Goeie Hoop omvaar het. 'n Replika staan nou op die plek, die sg. Diazpunt, terwyl die oorblyfsels van die oorspronklike in museums in Kaapstad en Lissabon bewaar word. As dit van 'n seilboot op see besigtig word, word Diazpunt se ware dimensies gesien, 'n rotsagtige landhoof met die woestyn as agtergrond.
